HRH?

I was going to put my name in the hat, what with being the same age and newly single...

But I got a little sidetracked.

I barely noticed actually. So trust me...Her Royal Highness can keep him.

Oh right.

This evening I pep-talked myself into putting on my running shoes, loading up Ellie - today the consumer of an entire package of Werther's Originals hard candies (paper included), and going for a run out in the desert.

Imagine you are me. Running at a steady pace. Perhaps 1/4 to a 1/2 mile into the run. Listening to this song.

Feeling fantastic and proud of myself for getting outside. Thinking about how great it is that my fish are still alive. Thinking about databases for work. Waiting for Ellie to catch up because she stopped a ways back to sniff the wildflowers.

And suddenly! I ran smack into this!
Ok. Not really.

But it was one of them...like this....ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss...............

stretched out in the middle of the ATV track I was running up. He rattled and hissed and moved a bunch and I screamed like a Justin Bieber fan who just saw Justin Bieber with a rattlesnake and sprinted alllll the way back to my car.

For all I know, he could have been inviting me to tea, or wanting me to scratch him behind his ears. Kinda like this little cutie patootie.

Unfortunately, I suspect that he may have started waving this when I ran the other direction to invite me to his kind of Tea Party.

Whatever he wanted from me, I guess it is about time I remember that I did indeed move back to the desert and I should probably start watching where I step. Or run. Or tread.

Believe me, I prefer to meet this kind of snake in this part of the Indian Wells Valley over the other any old day.

I think, perhaps...

it might be Spring.

Know how I know?

Because I dressed like this today.
Hello, white legs!

Even though I just saw this yesterday...
I went to the Home Depot and got some supplies to get my hands dirty.
So I did.
And now I'm hoping for some tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, some herbs, and maybe some strawberries. I crammed everything together in containers because I do not want to take the time to build beds at a house I just rent.
I made a lot of mud.

Oh, and I made some new friends today, doubling the total number of friends I have in California!

They all live here, above my archaeology books.
There are two stripey ones. And one iridescent one. See them?
And one Fiddler Crab who is quite feisty!! Here he is getting warmed up for the tank. I know he is a boy because he has one big claw and one little claw.
I have not named them just yet (since realistically, they might not make it through the night...), but I am happy they are here!

I also know it is Spring because for the first time in a long while, I woke up refreshed, energized, and hopeful. I've had a lot going on the last few months. Some really good. Some not so really good. Some I've mentioned. Much more I've had to keep to myself. Spring is all about new beginnings. And I am very much ready for mine.

Now if I could just get motivated to Spring Clean my house...
