Ka-Pow!

That's the sound of the craft bomb that I promised you several months ago.

I figure the beginning of field season before I get too busy to blog and craft is a good time to hit you with a review of my last year and a half...in crafts, or their equivalents.

Most of my craft projects last winter (yep, I mean 2008) centered around Miss Sophie Pants, the coolest niece ever.

Right after (and before) she was born, I started making my first sweater and booties...this Kimono sweater and these Booties to be exact. I also made a bunch of hats, all of which were knit with teeny tiny needles for a teeny tiny body and a beautiful little head.

I also did a little bit of sewing last winter...I attempted my first quilt (for Sophie, of course). It didn't turn out the best, but hopefully someone will hurry up and have another baby so I can try again. I also made my first stuffed animal - I used the Peanut pattern from Joelle Hoverson's Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts (pattern by Hillary Lang). Here is Sophie holding her elephant, sitting on her quilt. You can't really see the quilting in this picture...but its there!

I had to make a few things for my mom's students, so I threw together these treat bags...
and some tote bags for her other teacher friends, with coordinating pencil pouches.I also made some ornaments for my knitting group...balls of yarn with "needles."
There is a huge gap in my file of projects for most of 2009. I think this is entirely due to the fact that I crafted my thesis:
Summer 2009 was also sort of lacking in crafts for various reasons...but I managed to "craft" a little deal with the boss for some time off of work..so I did a little bit of "rock climbing" and recreational hiking (you know, that I didn't get paid for) in the Beartooth Wilderness...

Oh, and helped Lizzie and her friends with some traditional crafting, in this case butchering a buffalo.

All summer I did a little bit of gardening. It didn't turn out great, but people who had bountiful harvests were willing to share their things with me...This resulted in a wonderful Fall 2009 full of CANNING!!!!
I made....
Pear Butter:
Which made me happy, apparently...Apple Butter (5 Varieties, actually...)
And Pasta Sauce!
Which made me tired, apparently...Oh, and I pickled beets!Sister and I "crafted" a surprise for Dad's birthday, that included me showing up in a restaurant in Las Vegas...he actually didn't recognize me and thought I was a bag lady. Was it the scarf?
I helped my friend Jen hem her wedding dress - which was probably the most nerve-wracking thing I have ever done in terms of crafting.I made a few birthday and Christmas gifts for people...
For Lizzie, a new apron....For Sister, an apron and a bag....

And one for me!Dia de los muertos aprons for Lauren and her sister....
And a hat and scarf for my friend Ryan...who actually wore the darn thing this winter!
Hanging in there? Good!

We crafted a new paint color in the guestroom...Ellie and Tanner were a little skeptical about it. I guess they liked turquoise better?
Before...
After (with corner molding added too)! I haven't taken any other photos of the room - its currently in state of chaos from crafting, actually.
And we crafted some new stairs...
The Before: The During....And the After!
Lest you think I forgot about Miss Sophie Pants, don't you worry - she's been taken care of!
For her first birthday...she got a Hello Kitty hat!
For Christmas, she got a doll...
And for Valentine's Day, she got a purse full of love...
That didn't actually arrive until St. Patrick's Day. She got the concept of the purse immediately, and really took the time to reflect on love, life, and the source of true happiness (which may or may not be pacifiers...)
Really....I am almost done....

There was a plethora of babies born this year, all of whom I got to make stuff for (though I didn't get pictures of all of them.)
Baby Oceanna got some knitted washcloths and this dress...
Baby Misty got some burp cloths (see Baby Evelyn below for an example...)

Baby Barnet got a brown hat, that looks very similar to the one Cousin Bre got for Christmas...
Baby Perry got a Boppy cover and a skateboard (since her folks are avid skaters)...

Baby Rosa got a ladybug...
Baby Peighton got a tutu...see two posts below this one.

And finally, Baby Evelyn got burp cloths and knitted washrags...

But wait! What is that?? A surprise, perhaps?

Ok, that's it. I am done bragging.

Were you blown away?

No more snow, please

I am over it.

I woke up in Red Lodge this morning to a fresh blanket of snow. It was beautiful and appropriately deposited in the surrounding Beartooth Mountains. But now I'm home and its supposed to snow in Miles City tonight.

I miss the desert and everything about it. Even the rattlesnakes and scorpion weed. I'll take them all, please, just to be....
Where its warm...
And pretty scenery abounds...
And flowers are in bloom that won't freeze tonight...
One more month of cold...one more month of cold....one more month of cold...
